How to Fill JoSAA Choices: A Step-by-Step Guide (2025)
1. Make a long list first
List every branch-and-college you would accept. Use the predictor to see what is within reach for your rank and category.
2. Order by preference, not by safety
JoSAA always tries to give you your highest preference you qualify for. So put your dream choices first, even if they are a stretch — you can never be "punished" for listing an ambitious choice high.
3. Cover Reach, Moderate and Safe
Put a few ambitious (Reach) choices at the top, your realistic (Moderate) ones in the middle, and safe options at the bottom so you are guaranteed some seat.
4. Lock before the deadline
Unlocked choices auto-lock at the deadline, but lock manually to be safe.
5. Understand float / slide / freeze
After each round, Float keeps you in the running for a better seat, Slide stays in the same institute, Freeze accepts your current seat.
Build your shortlist with our free college predictor, then mirror that order in JoSAA.
